Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met with Ali Bagheri Kani, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, on Friday to discuss strengthening the ties between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The meeting took place at Barzani Headquarters and centered on the political situation in the wider region, with a focus on developing economic, trade, and cultural relations.

Bagheri Kani arrived in Erbil on Friday, where he also met with top Kurdish officials, including Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and President Nechirvan Barzani. This visit marks a significant step in reaffirming the longstanding relationship between Kurdistan and Iran.

During the discussions, the Iranian acting foreign minister expressed gratitude for the Kurdistan Region's condolences following the tragic helicopter crash that resulted in the deaths of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his team. The helicopter crashed in East Azerbaijan Province due to bad weather conditions. Despite an exhaustive 18-hour search, the wreckage was found, confirming the loss of all nine passengers, including Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

A statement from Barzani Headquarters highlighted the importance of mutual cooperation and the enduring relationship between the two sides. The discussions emphasized the need to explore opportunities for further collaboration, particularly in economic activities, trade, and cultural exchanges. Both parties underscored the significance of fostering friendship and reinforcing strong bonds between Kurdistan and Iran.
