Trade Bank of Iraq Distributes Debit Cards to Kurdistan Region Civil Servants
The Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) has successfully distributed the first batch of debit cards to the MyAccount team, marking a significant milestone in the financial inclusion initiative spearheaded by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). According to a statement from the KRG’s Ministry of Finance and Economy, these debit cards will benefit 368 civil servants across various ministries in the Kurdistan Region.
The Ministry further revealed that additional debit cards from TBI are expected to arrive soon, which will then be distributed to more civil servants. This initiative is part of the broader MyAccount project, aimed at ensuring that public sector employees have secure and convenient access to their salaries.
On May 31, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani urged civil servants to continue registering for the MyAccount program via a post on X. The project underscores the government's commitment to improving financial accessibility and transparency for its employees.
The Department of Information Technology (DIT) of the KRG played a crucial role in this project by designing, testing, piloting, and implementing a secure application. This application facilitates the onboarding of KRG civil servants into the program in compliance with the Central Bank of Iraq’s Know-Your-Customer (KYC) requirements.
To date, seven banks have participated in the MyAccount project. These include BBAC, Cihan, RT Bank, Bank of Baghdad, Iraqi Islamic Bank, National Bank of Iraq, and Trade Bank of Iraq.
The MyAccount project is a significant component of the KRG's financial inclusion strategy. It aims to provide public sector beneficiaries with a safe and efficient means to access their salaries, thereby enhancing financial security and operational efficiency within the government sector.
