In a significant move highlighting solidarity and recognition of the Peshmerga forces, the municipality of Paris has announced plans to name a street after the Peshmerga, as revealed in a statement from the Erbil Governor's Office. This decision emerged following a pivotal meeting between Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo during the sidelines of the 44th International Congress of Francophone Countries held in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Governor Khoshnaw conveyed warm regards from Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to Mayor Hidalgo, reciprocated with greetings extended to him through the Governor. The discussions between the two dignitaries also delved into significant collaborations, including the restoration of the iconic Erbil Citadel. The French government has committed its participation in the restoration endeavors, with the commencement of necessary work anticipated in the near future.

Moreover, in a gesture of profound solidarity, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) received an official invitation to partake in the 2024 Paris Olympics, underscoring the strengthening ties between Kurdistan and France.

To commemorate the burgeoning relationship between Paris and Erbil, it was agreed upon to organize a celebratory event in Erbil, in conjunction with the French Consulate. This event aims to symbolize unity and cooperation, featuring the display of the Olympic logo as a testament to the shared aspirations of both regions.

The Peshmerga, renowned for their pivotal role in combating the Islamic State (IS) and safeguarding Kurdish territories, hold historical significance for their steadfast resistance in the pursuit of Kurdish self-determination and independence. The decision to name a street after them in the heart of Paris stands as a testament to their valor and unwavering commitment to the Kurdish cause.
