This reaffirmation follows Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani's recent formal request for the conclusion of UNAMI's mandate by the end of 2025.

During a daily press conference, U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel emphasized the pivotal role UNAMI has played in fostering regional stability and addressing internal challenges within Iraq. Patel highlighted that UNAMI's efforts have extended beyond electoral assistance to encompass crucial functions such as facilitating regional dialogues, ensuring equitable distribution of humanitarian aid, and supporting the voluntary return of displaced Iraqis.
