Baghdad, Iraq, April 28, 2024

President Nechirvan Barzani held a meeting with the Acting Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Mohsen Mandalawi in Baghdad on Sunday evening. They discussed the latest developments in Iraq, including the election of the speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Erbil-Baghdad relations, the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, and the legislative measures required in the Iraqi Parliament.

Both sides acknowledged that resolving the matters between Erbil and Baghdad, along with sustaining the dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Iraqi Government, is imperative for upholding peace and stability in the country. Furthermore, both parties emphasized the inseparable nature of peace and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

The President and the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives agreed on the significance of cooperation between the political parties to ensure the rights and interests of all communities in Iraq and to maintain political peace and stability, as well as the importance of holding the Kurdistan Parliament elections with the participation of all parties.

The latest developments in the region in general and their consequences were another topic of the meeting.
