In the aftermath of a devastating drone strike on the Khor Mor gas field in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, global condemnation has surged, with British Ambassador Stephen Hitchen leading the charge against what he termed a reprehensible attempt to wield violence for political gain.

Ambassador Hitchen voiced his condemnation via social media, denouncing the assault on the Khor Mor gas field situated in the Chamchamal district as an abhorrent act driven by political and economic motives.

"We strongly condemn the attack on the Khor Mor gas field, which represents a reprehensible endeavor to achieve political and economic objectives through the use of violence," stated Ambassador Hitchen.

His remarks echo the British government's commitment to justice and stability in the region, as calls for accountability resonate throughout the international community.

The attack, captured on surveillance footage, revealed the dramatic moment of impact as a drone struck the gas field, targeting Dana Gas Company workers and resulting in chaos and tragedy.

The drone responsible for the attack, identified as an Iranian-made Shahed 101 (kamikaze) drone, has been previously employed by militia groups in Iraq and Syria, adding a concerning dimension to the incident.

Regrettably, the assault claimed the lives of four Yemeni workers and left two others injured at the Khor Mor gas field, a critical infrastructure hub that supplies two-thirds of the Kurdistan Region's electricity needs.

Both the U.S. State Department and the United Nations Special Envoy (UNAMI) have issued statements condemning the violence, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also denounced the attack, extending condolences to the victims and vowing support for the wounded.

The international response underscores the severity of the incident, highlighting the urgent imperative of ensuring justice and preventing future acts of aggression targeting vital infrastructure.
