On 29 February 2024, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, held a meeting with Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart in Washington, D.C.

Their discussions focused on the current state of affairs in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, emphasising the importance of addressing Erbil-Baghdad issues in alignment with the Iraqi constitution.

Both parties reiterated the essential need for maintaining security and stability within the Kurdistan Region and acknowledged its constitutional rights. They also highlighted the necessity of safeguarding the rights of various ethnic and religious communities. The commitment to ongoing support for the Peshmerga forces by the United States and the international coalition was mutually acknowledged.
