Iran Unveils New Anti-Ballistic and Air Defense Systems Amid Regional Tensions
Iran showcased its latest advancements in military technology on Saturday, introducing the Arman anti-ballistic missile system and the Azarakhsh low-altitude air defense system, as reported by the official IRNA news agency.
The unveiling ceremony, presided over by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, comes at a time of escalating tensions in the region. The recent attacks on warships linked to the US, UK, and Israel in the Red Sea by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi group have intensified concerns.
In solidarity with Gaza, the Houthi militants' assault underscores the volatile situation in the Middle East. In response to these attacks, the US has launched strikes on targets within Yemen, as well as targeting installations of Iranian-supported militants in Iraq and Syria. This has led to retaliatory attacks on US military bases in the region, further exacerbating the conflict. Additionally, Israel has conducted airstrikes on Iranian sites in Syria.
According to IRNA, the Arman missile system is capable of engaging up to six targets simultaneously within a range of 120 to 180 kilometers. Meanwhile, the Azarakhsh system boasts the ability to detect and neutralize threats within a range of 50 kilometers using four pre-loaded missiles.
This unveiling follows Iran's announcement in June of its first domestically produced hypersonic ballistic missile, named Fattah, with an impressive range of 1,400 kilometers.
The introduction of these advanced defense systems underscores Iran's commitment to enhancing its military capabilities, amid ongoing regional tensions and external threats.
