KDP President Masoud Barzani Condemns Iranian Missile Attacks, Meets Family of Victims

Erbil, Kurdistan Region - In the aftermath of the Iranian ballistic missile attacks on January 15 that claimed the lives of Peshraw Dizayee, his daughter, and two other civilians, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani expressed his condolences and solidarity with the grieving family.

President Barzani, who personally attended the funeral procession of Mr. Dizayee and his 11-month-old daughter Zheena in Erbil, denounced the attacks as a "crime" and condemned the oppression against the affected family and the people of the Kurdistan Region. The meeting with Dizayee's relatives and brothers was an opportunity for Barzani to extend his sympathies once again and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.

Renowned Kurdish politician Mohsen Dizayee, a relative of the deceased, expressed appreciation for President Barzani's support during the difficult time. Similarly, Abdulla Dizayee, the brother of the late businessman, acknowledged the former Kurdistan Region president's sympathy.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted the private residence during a family gathering, alleging it to be a "Mossad center," a claim vehemently rejected by officials in Erbil and Baghdad. The attack resulted in widespread condemnation from Western countries and the United Nations, prompting thousands of protestors across the Kurdistan Region to demonstrate against the deadly assaults.

In response to the incident, Prime Minister Mohammad Shia' Al-Sudani swiftly launched an investigation committee, which refuted the Iranian allegations, stating that the targeted site was not a spy center.

This tragic event has further strained relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran, eliciting international concern and calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the missile attacks.
