Kurds in Europe Unite in Solidarity Against Iran's Attack on Erbil

The Kurdish Diaspora Confederation, alongside the Kurdish Migrant Federation and various Kurdish diaspora communities and NGOs, is mobilizing Kurds across Europe to participate in mass protests scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2024, at 12:00 pm. The demonstrations, set to take place in front of Iranian embassies across European countries, aim to express solidarity against the recent atrocities perpetrated by the Islamic regime of Iran.

The announcement follows the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) multiple missile and drone attacks on Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, on Monday night. The assault resulted in the tragic deaths of a prominent businessman, his 11-month-old daughter, and two other civilians. The international community has condemned Iran's reckless attacks on civilians.

The Kurdish Diaspora Confederation is urging the Kurdish diaspora in Europe to participate in these widespread demonstrations as an expression of their patriotic duties. The addresses of the protests include various European cities, where participants are encouraged to show solidarity and hoist the Kurdistan flag.

The IRGC's attack on Erbil has led to widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally. Iranian officials claim the attack targeted a Mossad base in Erbil, although there is insufficient evidence to support such allegations. The resulting civilian casualties and material damages have sparked outrage.

Internationally, foreign countries have denounced the attack and expressed solidarity with Kurdistan. Domestically, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani canceled a meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Iraq in response to the atrocity.

As Kurds within Kurdistan and the diaspora unite in mass demonstrations, the Kurdish Diaspora Confederation seeks to bring greater international attention to the actions of the Iranian regime, condemning the brutal attacks on the economic powerhouse of Erbil and the false justifications that led to civilian casualties.
