France Strongly Condemns Drone Attack on Peshmerga Forces in Erbil; Urges Swift Action Against Perpetrators

In an official statement issued on Sunday, the French government expressed a resolute condemnation of the drone attack carried out by pro-Iran militias on Peshmerga forces in Erbil on Saturday. France characterized the incident as of "particular gravity" and emphasized the urgent need for an end to such "violent and destabilizing actions."

The statement released by the French foreign ministry asserted, "France strongly condemns, with the utmost firmness, the attack of particular gravity carried out using armed drones against a headquarters of Kurdish forces last night in Pirmam, in the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan."

France called for a cessation of these actions and urged the identification and pursuit of those responsible for the attack. Emphasizing respect for Iraq's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the stability and security of the Kurdistan Region, the French government urged all involved parties to prioritize peace and stability in the region.

The statement concluded with an assurance of France's unwavering solidarity with both the Iraqi federal authorities and those of the Kurdistan Region. The international community remains concerned about the escalation of tensions in the region and the potential impact on regional stability.

This condemnation follows reports of a drone attack on a Peshmerga base in the Pirmam district of Erbil province. Two explosive-laden drones targeted the base on Saturday night, causing material damage to the complex but resulting in no reported casualties, as confirmed by Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani.

In response to the attack, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, serving as the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, has ordered a comprehensive investigation. Security agencies from both the federal government and the Kurdistan Region are working collaboratively to identify the perpetrators and assess any potential threats to national sovereignty and security. Further updates on the investigation are expected in the coming days.
