US Defense Secretary Issues Warning Amid Escalating Tensions in the Middle East

In a press conference held in Seoul on Monday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin issued a stern warning, signaling the possibility of additional airstrikes if attacks on US bases in the Middle East persist. Austin expressed concern over a series of recent assaults on US and Coalition troops by Iran-backed forces, stressing the need for immediate cessation.

"These attacks must stop, and if they don't stop, then we won't hesitate to do what's necessary, again, to protect the troops," warned Austin, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

The Defense Secretary highlighted the purpose behind recent US airstrikes, stating, "These strikes are intended to disrupt and degrade the freedom of action of these groups, which are directly responsible for attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria."

Over the past few weeks, tensions have escalated as Iran-backed forces carried out at least 40 attacks on US and Coalition troops in Iraq and Syria. The result has been at least 45 US troops suffering traumatic brain injuries or minor wounds, adding urgency to the situation.

In response to the ongoing threats, the US military executed its third round of airstrikes in as many weeks on Sunday. The strikes targeted a training facility near Albu Kamal and a safe house near Mayadeen, aiming to curb the actions of the groups responsible for the attacks.

The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic efforts underway to address the root causes of the conflict. The international community is closely monitoring developments in the region as the risk of further escalation persists.
