Kurdistan Regional Government Declares Protest Victims in Kirkuk as Martyrs
The Kurdistan Regional Government has officially recognized the four Kurdish citizens who lost their lives during the September 2, 2023, protests in Kirkuk province as martyrs. Consequently, their families will be treated as families of martyrs, and the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs has been instructed to oversee this matter.
The spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government, Peshwa Hurami, announced that Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has directed the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs to initiate the necessary procedures for the victims of the September 2nd events in Kirkuk, considering them martyrs. The government is committed to providing all required medical assistance and treatment to the injured and wounded.
It is worth noting that on September 2nd of this year, Kurdish citizens in the Rahimawa neighborhood of Kirkuk held a peaceful demonstration in protest of the closure of the main road connecting Kirkuk and Erbil. However, tensions escalated during the demonstration, resulting in the tragic loss of four Kurdish protesters' lives and the injury of dozens of others.
The decision to recognize these individuals as martyrs reflects the government's commitment to honoring those who have sacrificed their lives for the cause, and it underscores the government's responsibility to support their families during this difficult time. The government's pledge to provide medical care for the injured underscores its commitment to the well-being of all citizens involved in the recent events.
This move aims to provide solace to the families of the victims and is a testament to the Kurdistan Regional Government's dedication to addressing the consequences of the September 2nd events in Kirkuk.
