Turkish Drone Strike Kills Four Syrian Democratic Forces Fighters Near Qamishlo

In a recent escalation of tensions in northeast Syria, a Turkish drone strike on Thursday evening resulted in the deaths of four fighters belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The attack took place in the village of Hermi Shekho, near Qamishlo, in the Hasakah province.

According to a press release by the SDF, the targeted fighters were on their way to their homes for their monthly vacation when the drone attack occurred. Tragically, four fighters lost their lives, and two others were wounded in the incident. Among the deceased was a prominent commander, Aram Muhammad Ibrahim, who had played a pivotal role in the fight against ISIS.

It is noteworthy that the drone strike happened on the 9th commemoration of the Yezidi genocide, adding to the gravity of the situation.

Turkish drone strikes in northeast Syria have increased recently, raising concerns among the local population and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). The AANES expressed strong criticism against the silence of the ceasefire guarantor states, specifically Russia and the United States, for failing to take action to halt the Turkish drone attacks.

Despite separate ceasefire agreements between Turkey and Russia, as well as Turkey and the United States, which were implemented in October 2019 to quell the conflict between Turkey and the SDF, the drone strikes have persisted.

According to data from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), this latest attack marks the 30th drone strike carried out by Turkey since the beginning of 2023.

The situation remains tense, and the international community is closely monitoring developments in the region to prevent further escalations and violence.
