KRG PM Meets with US Delegation to Discuss Peshmerga Reform and Support

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, met today with an American delegation headed by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Middle Eastern Affairs Dana Stroul.

The meeting, attended also by General Matthew McFarlane, Commander-in-Chief of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, focused on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key issues related to the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting was held at the KRG's headquarters in Erbil and discussed a range of issues, including the reform process in the Peshmerga Ministry, the implementation of the memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Peshmerga and the US Defense, and the situation in the Kurdish regions outside the region.

Stroul conveyed the greetings of the US Secretary of Defense and reiterated her country's support for the KRG and the Peshmerga. She said that the United States and the international coalition will continue to support the Peshmerga forces to confront the threat posed by terrorism, especially ISIS.

Barzani expressed the KRG's thanks and gratitude for the US support and said that the KRG is committed to reform and strengthening its security forces. He also discussed the situation in the Kurdish regions outside the region and the need to end the seizure of the lands of Kurdish and Turkmen farmers within the borders of Kirkuk Governorate.

The two sides agreed to continue their close cooperation and coordination to address the challenges facing the Kurdistan Region.
