Erbil, Kurdistan Region - The construction of the Goma Span Dam in Erbil is rapidly advancing, with the ambitious project on track to become the largest dam in the province. Once completed, it will rank as the third largest dam in the entire Kurdistan Region, following the Dukan and Darbandikhan dams. This significant endeavor is expected to have a reservoir capacity of 115 million cubic meters, playing a vital role in water preservation, combating drought, and bolstering the tourism sector.

In an exclusive interview with the Kurdistan Region's Department of Media and Information, Abdullah Hamad Gardi, the manager of the company responsible for constructing the dam, shared key details about the project. He revealed that the estimated budget for the Goma Span Dam stands at 95 billion Iraqi dinars. With a length of 512 meters and a height of 70 meters, the dam has already reached the halfway completion mark.

Gardi highlighted the importance of the Goma Span Dam, emphasizing its potential impact on the region. The vast reservoir and associated infrastructure will aid in preserving water, increasing underground water levels, and ensuring a sustainable supply of clean water for the province of Erbil. Spanning an impressive area of 6,125,000 square meters, the Goma Span Dam is set to become the third largest dam in the Kurdistan Region.
