Kurdish leaders condemn killing of Newroz celebrants in Jindires

PM Barzani has expressed his condemnation for the killing of people who were celebrating Newroz in Jindires.

Newroz is a Kurdish holiday that marks the start of the spring and new year. It is widely celebrated by Kurdish people in many countries, including Turkey.

Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, has condemned the killing of four Kurdish people who were celebrating Newroz in Jindires, a town in northwest Syria.

The Turkish-backed armed militia, Ahrar al-Sharqiya, reportedly fired on the group and killed at least four people while injuring two others.

PM Barzani extended his condolences to the victims' families and called for those responsible to be held accountable and brought to justice.

The Kurdistan Region's Presidency also condemned the attack and urged relevant authorities to find the perpetrators and prevent similar crimes in the future.

The Barzani Headquarters called for accountability and emphasized that the victims were practicing their basic rights.

The Ahrar al-Sharqiya militants responsible for the killings have reportedly been arrested.

Jindires was captured by Turkey and Turkish-backed forces in 2018 as part of a mission to remove Kurdish forces from the Afrin area.
