PM Masrour Barzani meets with US delegation
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday met with an American delegation led by the US Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller.
In the meeting, the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region were discussed, including the federal supreme court’s recent decision against the Kurdistan Region’s oil and gas industry.
Prime Minister Barzani emphasized the importance of the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region, commenting that the decision violates those rights and is not in the interests of the Iraqi people. The Prime Minister also reiterated the KRG’s determination to resolve the issue through dialogue.
The US delegation also included the Commander of the Coalition forces in Iraq and Syria, the Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran, the Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and the US Consul General in Erbil.
The war against the Islamic State (ISIS) and the importance of continued support for the Peshmerga forces were further topics of the discussion, with the US delegation expressing their support for continued stability in the Kurdistan Region.
