Kurdistan Region President and British Ambassador to Iraq discuss Iraqi situation
Nechirvan Barzani, President of Kurdistan Region, received this morning, Sunday, Mark Bryson Richardson, the British Ambassador to Iraq and an accompanying delegation.
In a meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the political situation, the process of electing the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, the dialogue between the parties on the future of the political process, the election of the President of the Republic and the formation of the government, Erbil-Baghdad relations and Britain's relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
President Nechirvan Barzani stressed the importance and necessity of political stability in Iraq and the presence of trust and mutual understanding between the parties and components to manage the political process and for a better present and future for the country.
The two sides agreed on the importance of a unified position of the political parties of the Kurdistan Region in Baghdad, and expressed the hope that the dialogue and the efforts of the political forces would lead to a common understanding and political stability, and indicated that the friends of Iraq are following with interest the dialogue between the Iraqi parties.
The British Ambassador to Iraq stressed his country's commitment to continue working with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and praised the role of President Nechirvan Barzani in the reform process of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, pointing out that his country continued to support the process of reorganizing the Peshmerga.
Security developments and targeting offices of diplomatic missions and political party headquarters in Baghdad, the status of the Covid-19 epidemic, the issue of immigration and the situation in the region in general, formed another focus of the meeting, which was attended by the Consul General and Defense Adviser at the British Consulate General in Erbil.
