After arrest of ISIS terrorist cell, PM Barzani praises efforts of security services
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, praised the efforts of the security services that were able to arrest a cell that was planning to carry out terrorist attacks in the capital, Erbil.
The Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, posted on his Twitter account, "I was pleased to receive word from our security services that they have successfully disrupted an ISIS terror cell and a very real threat in Erbil."
"We can all give thanks for the hard work they do to keep our families and communities safe from terrorism ," he added.
On Saturday, the Kurdistan Region Security Council announced the arrest of a terrorist cell that was planning to carry out attacks in Erbil.
The council stated that "the cell is made up of a security group that managed recently to form a detachment in the city of Erbil in order to carry out suicide operations," noting that "the cell managed to recruit three suicide bombers."
According to the statement, "one of the suicide bombers recruited by the cell, called "Hedayat," blew himself up on July 19, on the day of Arafa, the eve of Eid al-Adha, in Sadr City, east of Baghdad."
The statement stated that "this group purchased weapons and military supplies and sent them to Baghdad," stressing that "the group's plans were to carry out suicide operations in the future, but with the efforts and vigilance of the security services in the Kurdistan Region, the terrorist group was exposed and its members arrested."
