Iraq announces imminent meeting with Turkey and Syria regarding water quotas
On Monday, the Ministry of Water Resources in Iraq announced a government orientation towards holding an imminent meeting with Ankara and Damascus with the aim of agreeing on water quotas within the common rivers.
According to Ayn Al-Iraq News, the official spokesman for the ministry and director of the General Survey Authority, Ali Radi, said that "a tripartite meeting will be held soon between the three countries, in order to develop agreements and understandings that guarantee fair water releases for Iraq within the common rivers."
Radi pointed out that "the technical delegation of the ministry had visited Turkey and discussed several files and axes in the water file, and among the priorities of the discussions were water releases in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and ensuring the country's water rights, in addition to the joint protocol between Iraq and Turkey for water releases to the Tigris River and ensuring a monthly quota of those shots."
He added, "the most important focus of the delegation's visit was to share the damage during periods of water scarcity, and to see some Turkish installations, the most important of which is the Aliso Dam."
He continued by saying that "the ministry had held previous meetings with the Syrian side via an electronic circuit."
