The King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, King Abdulla II, received the President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani at Al-Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday evening.

At the meeting, attended by their excellencies Prince Faisal bin Hussain, Jordan’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, bilateral relations between Jordan and the Kurdistan Region and ways to strengthen ties were underlined. Discussions also focused on the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region. The King reaffirmed Jordan’s support to Iraq.

Both sides affirmed the need to strengthen and unify the international and regional efforts within the framework of an inclusive strategy to fight terrorism and extremism and secure peace and stability in the region. The King and the President also discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact, especially on the economy.

President Nechirvan Barzani expressed gratitude to King Abdulla II and the Kingdom of Jordan for their continuous support of the Kurdistan Region. The President referred to the historic relations between Jordan and the Kurdistan Region and expressed Kurdistan Region’s willingness to maintain cooperation with Jordan in all areas of mutual interest. The President reaffirmed the importance of developing and expanding Iraq’s and the Kurdistan Region’s relations with Jordan.
