Peshmerga Hospital Opened in Erbil
The new facility was opened during a ceremony attended by Peshmerga officials and commanders of German military advisors in the region.
The Peshmerga hospital was built by Germany to honor the Peshmerga sacrifices in the war against the Islamic State (IS).
Peshmerga commander Sheikh Jafar Mustafa told reporters that the aid Germany has provided to the Peshmerga forces is highly valued. He thanked the German parliament for extending the mission of German military advisors in the Kurdistan Region.
“The German forces have played a significant role in training the Peshmerga and sending injured troops abroad for medical treatments. Also this project of establishing a hospital specially for the Peshmerga is highly valued,” Mustafa said.
German Defense Ministry spent nearly $5 million to build the Peshmerga hospital.
A German commander reiterated during the news conference that his country will continue supporting the Peshmerga ministry with its advisory role and training the Kurdish forces.
However, he noted, there is no plan for now to send further arms to the Peshmerga forces.
