ERBIL — German Defense Minister von der Leyen arrived in Kurdistan Region’s capital in the evening on Sunday.

Von Der Leyen is expected to meet with top Kurdish officials to discuss bilateral ties, cooperations with Peshmerga forces, as well as the latest developments in regional security and war against the Islamic State.

Germany, a key member of the US-led Coalition for the war against the Islamic State (IS), has nearly 150 troops stationed in the Kurdistan Region who provide Peshmerga with military training.
