ERBIL - The prominent Kurdish leader and former president of the Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, received on Thursday the special US presidential envoy to the anti-Islamic State (IS) coalition, Brett McGurk, to discuss the political and security developments across Iraq.

During the meeting, where the US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman was present as well, officials exchanged views on the process of the formation of the Iraqi future government and the upcoming parliamentary session on the 15th of this month, according to a statement by Barzani's office.

They further shed light on the upcoming regional parliamentary election which is set for September 30, the statement continued.

Barzani and the US officials also talked about the bilateral ties and collaborations between Erbil and Washington in the continuation of fight against the Islamic State (IS) cooperatively.
