Kurdistan Election on Time Despite Delay in Campaigns: Lawmaker
Speaking to BasNews on Tuesday, MP Omed Khoshnaw said the public should stand against the political parties which are working now to postpone the vote which is the right of the people.
“The election will certainly be held with no delay,” Khoshnaw said in response to concerns about a possible postponement, explaining that only the election campaigns might begin later by a few days.
Kurdish political parties are now divided over holding the election on 30 September. The ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG), and several other factions favour holding the polls on time.
However, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) have implied that they want the election to be put off. The Coalition for Democracy and Justice (CDJ) has already declared that it will not take part in the election due to its concerns over frauds and irregularities.
