PM Barzani, UN Envoy Discuss Iraqi Future Government Formation
ERBIL - Kurdistan Region PM Nechirvan Barzani received on Sunday the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Jan Kubis, where they exchanged views on the latest political developments in Iraq.

The officials, during the meeting, stressed that the May election winners, including the Kurdish factions, have to accelerate the process of holding the first parliamentary session so that a new government in Baghdad will also be formed as soon as possible.

The Kurdish premier, in the meantime, pointed out that the Kurdish political parties have been making efforts to prepare a joint program and be part of the future Iraqi government.

He further she'd light on the latest meetings between the two major Kurdish parties, the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK?), with the Iraqi leaders, including the country's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi ahead of the establishment of the new cabinet in Baghdad.

The pair also discussed a number of other issues related to the Kurdistan Region, including the upcoming parliamentary election which has been scheduled for the September 30.
