Funded by UAE Red Crescent, BCF oversees distribution of benefits to orphans
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) on Monday oversaw, during a ceremony in Erbil, the distribution of aid packages to orphans as part of “the Azizan Project” that received funding from the Red Crescent Society (RCS) of the United Arab Emirates.

During the ceremony, Mousa Ahmed, head of the BCF, explained to Kurdistan 24 the details of the project and revealed that the provinces of Sulaimani, Kirkuk, and Duhok would be next.

The project was founded “in 2009 after an agreement with the RCS and, in 2012, the first aid package arrived which benefited 5,000 Aziz (orphans),” Ahmed stated.

The Abu Dhabi-based RCS has always praised the BCF for excellent management and good work, Ahmed said, also noting that 21 other countries are participating in the aid program.

“What we see here is the final group [of children] receiving benefits from the 2017 [funding] in which 10,722 Aziz were included in a USD 8.284 million package,” Ahmed explained.

The head of BCF also said that in efforts to expand the scope of their work, in 2011, with the attendance and supervision of Masrour Barzani, Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), they announced the “Kurdistan Project” which was funded by local charities.

“And despite the challenges the Kurdistan Region has been facing,” he stated, “the project has been subject to high praise.”

The BCF supports the orphans through direct financial benefits but also encourages and assists children’s education as well as offers courses to promote learning.

Ahmed also said he was delighted they were able to give the packages to the orphans before the Islamic Eid al-Adha holiday begins.

At the end of June, the BCF also signed a memorandum of understanding with the German Wings of Help (LOG) to collect humanitarian aid in Europe and deliver it to refugees and internally displaced persons through the local organization.
