ERBIL - Iraqi protest organizers have said that they are left with only one option if the government continues to ignore their demands, a report said in Saturday.

Ali Basri, a member of the demonstration organizers in Basra province told Russia Today that they will stage a strike within the upcoming weeks to pressure Baghdad to meet the demands of the demonstrators, Kurdistan 24 reported.

He added that they will coordinate with the protest organizers from the other cities for consultancy.

Basri noted that the first day of the week strike will be announced in a few days.

Thousands of Iraqis in the southern provinces and central Baghdad have been protesting the poor public services and high rate of unemployment.

Hundreds of people, including security personnel, have so far been killed and wounded, Iraqi media reports said.
