ERBIL — Prominent Kurdish leader and former president of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, has thanked Berlin for supporting Erbil and Peshmerga forces in the years-long war against the Islamic State (IS).

Barzani made the remarks in a meeting to welcome the new German Consul General Barbara Wolf.

The pair discussed latest political developments and the ties between Erbil and Berlin, reiterating the importance of further strengthening the relations in different areas.

The German consul general said his country will continue providing the Peshmerga forces with military assistance and trainings.

She also noted that Berlin support the democratic process in the Kurdistan Region, including the upcoming parliamentary election.
