Prime Minister Barzani meets U.S. Special Envoy
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani met with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS Brett McGurk, Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy in Iraq, Joey Hood, U.S. Consul-General to the Kurdistan Region Steven Fagin and their accompanying delegation.

The latest developments in the political process in Iraq including efforts towards forming the new Iraqi government were discussed.

Serious dialogue between political parties to form the new government, the active role of the Kurdistan Region and its strong presence in Baghdad were stressed. The delegation highly commended the talks between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad to resolve outstanding issues.

Prime Minister Barzani briefed the delegation about the efforts and dialogue of the political parties of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in both Erbil and Baghdad, talks among Kurdistan political parties on participation in the new Iraqi government and the preparations for elections in the Kurdistan Region.

Recent protests in southern and central Iraq, meeting the rights of demonstrators, stabilizing security of the greater region and further strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States were also discussed.

Kurdistan Region Presidency Chief of Staff Dr. Fuad Hussein and a number of ministers and officials in the Kurdistan Region also attended the meeting.
