Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received outgoing Ambassador of Switzerland to Jordan and Iraq Hans-Peter Lenz and his diplomatic delegation.

Ambassador Lenz thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government for its cooperation and support provided to the Swiss Embassy and Swiss humanitarian organizations. He hoped for further strengthening of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Switzerland. He also praised the role of the KRG in hosting an extraordinary number of displaced persons and providing them necessary protection and assistance.

Prime Minister Barzani wished Ambassador Lenz success in his next position. He stressed the continuing cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Switzerland, particularly the Swiss humanitarian organizations that assist displaced persons. He expressed the KRG’s readiness to provide any assistance needed to the Swiss government and humanitarian organisations to help displaced persons.

He also briefed Ambassador Lenz on the political-security situation in Iraq, relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, and the last joint operation of Peshmerga and coalition forces to eliminate ISIS in the region.

Regarding the political process in Iraq, Prime Minister Barzani expressed the KRG’s readiness to support any efforts aimed at stabilizing political and security processes in Iraq and achieving the rights of the people of Iraqi Kurdistan.

They also discussed the political and security situation in the wider region.
