The number of Iranian Kurdish youths joining Islamic State (IS) is increasing, said a Kurdish official blaming the Iranian security forces.

Mariwan Naqshbandi, Head of the Communication and Media Department at the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), told BasNews that Iranian Kurdish youths are increasingly joining IS. In the latest clashes between Peshmerga and IS in Tel-skuf, two Iranian Kurds were among the dead IS insurgents.

Moreover, IS is now using Iranian Kurds to execute Peshmerga captives, Naqshbandi says, accusing Iranian government of being reckless and unserious in preventing Kurdish youths from joining IS.

He revealed that no one has been reported joining IS for the last eight months in Kurdistan Region due to the efforts of Kurdish security forces in preventing people from joining the extremist group.

According to the Kurdish official, most of the Kurdish members of IS have either been killed or surrendered to the Kurdish security forces after they found themselves unable to cope with brutalities of the jihadists group.
