‘ISIL have 400 fighters trained to target Europe’
“ISIL extremists have trained 400 fighters to target Europe”, that’s according to unnamed security officials quoted in an article by the Associated Press.

The assessment is being reported as experts deconstruct the recent terror attacks in both Paris and Brussels.

Researcher Didier Leroy at the Royal Military Academy was interviewed by euronews on the subject of terrorism earlier this week. He believes ISIL would-be members are being radicalised by the actions of the West.

“At the moment we are still in this international context of a coalition that hits ISIL in Iraq and Syria which has the indirect effect of galvanizing, energizing this phenomenon of foreign fighters. I think we are still in a phase in which we must remain absolutely vigilant in relation to this kind of threat,” Leroy said.

French Senator Nathalie Goulet, co-head of a commission tracking jihadi networks, speculates individuals are being deployed in semi autonomous cells which can support each other if needed, hence the fugitive Salah Abdesalam being able to begin plotting again after fleeing the Paris attacks.

One answer is to improve the sharing of cross border intelligence.
