Special US envoy McGurk discussed economy, Mosul with President Barzani
The US special envoy to the anti-Islamic State (ISIS) coalition, Brett McGurk, discussed the current economic crisis facing the Kurdistan Region and the planned liberation of Mosul with President Massoud Barzani at the Munich Security Conference this past week.

McGurk, who met President Barzani on the sideline of the conference on its second day, told Rudaw's Ala Shally that the meeting with the Kurdish leader was “constructive” and “a very good meeting.”

He said that the officials have discussed “the economy, Mosul and the fight against Daesh [ISIS]” but he did not provide any specific details.

McGurk also commented on his recent meeting to the Kurdish-populated city of Kobani and his meetings with local officials there: “I was in Kobani. When the Kurds are united, nothing can defeat them and you showed that in Kobani and whole world saw that.”

McGurk has been shuttling between coalition countries and local partners in the Middle East for two years.

“I would of course encourage all the Kurds unite against the threat of Daesh. Daesh is not defeated yet so we have to keep working together,” he added.
