Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov,krd) - Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani, yesterday held a meeting with the governors of Erbil, Sulaymani and Duhok to discuss ways to address the current financial crisis in the Kurdistan Region.

In the meeting, which was also attended by the KRG Minister of Interior and a number of officials and advisers, the causes and impact of the current crisis on the economic and social conditions in Kurdistan Region were discussed.

The Council of Ministers High Committee of Finance discussed possible approaches, supported by figures and data, on how to alleviate the difficulties caused by the crisis, and ensuring the continuation of the provision of salaries in the governorates.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of taking economic measures that would have an impact on the market prices of daily necessities, such as food, house rent and medical consultations, that would help to ease the financial burden on the citizens. For this purpose, it was decided to hold another meeting next week in the presence of economic observers, representatives of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and relevant associations.
