Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Salim al-Jabouri, Speaker of the Iraq Parliament.

They discussed the political situation in Iraq and recent developments in the war against ISIS, stressing the need for continued international support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

They emphasized further coordination between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraq Federal Government, particularly in the war against terrorism.

Regarding the Kurdistan Region’s recent internal issues, Prime Minister Barzani said recent measures taken were intended to control the situation and restore peace and stability. He said all issues must be resolved through dialogue and negotiation.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Iraq Parliament Speaker, including holding meetings with Kurdistan political parties to solve the issues.

Mr. al-Jabouri expressed his gratitude for the assistance the KRG has been providing to refuge seekers who fled terrorist threats in other parts of Iraq and sought safety in the Kurdistan Region. In this regard, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his hope the Iraq government and parliament would take the issue of internally displaced persons, IDPs, more seriously.

Prime Minister Barzani said all efforts must be made by the Iraq government and Arab countries to further assist IDPs as their situation is serious.
