Fehmi Demir, President of Rights and Freedoms Party (HAK-PAR) died in a car accident, Rudaw's Diyarbakir correspondent reported.

Mustafa Özçelik, Kurdistan Freedom Party, or PAK, leader confirmed the news of Demir's death.

The car accident occurred near Pozanti township in Turkey's Adana province.

The 61 year-old Kurdish politician was born in Incov, Konya.

According to Demir’s profile published on HAK-PAR official website, he entered politics from an early age. He has worked at different position in different Kurdish parties in Turkey. He was elected president of Rights and Freedoms Party known as HAK-PAR (which is an abbreviation of the party’s Turkish name).

HAK-PAR which was founded in 2002 by a number of Kurdish politicians introduces itself as a “{a party} with the aim of solving Kurdish issue in Turkey based on an equality-based solution. And because of this, it is a Kurdish party for all Turkey.”

In Turkey’s general parliamentary elections in June, HAK-PAR won 58,698 votes; a number too small to qualify it for earning a seat in the Turkish parliament.
