Netherlands Continues Its Support to Kurdistan Region
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, yesterday received the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Iraq, Mr. Jan Waltmans and his accompanying diplomatic delegation.

Ambassador Waltmans expressed his government’s humanitarian and military support to Kurdistan Region. He also highlighted the good relations between the Netherlands and Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his government’s gratitude for the humanitarian and military assistance that the Netherlands has been offering to Kurdistan Region since the emergence of the threat of the Islamic State terrorist organization, ISIS, on Kurdistan.

Prime Minister Barzani discussed the current situation in Iraq and Kurdistan Region, focusing on the war against ISIS, the financial crisis which the Kurdistan Region faces, the presence of hundreds of thousands of refugees and internally displaced people, IDPs, who took refuge in the Region and the relations between Kurdistan Regional Government, KRG, and the Iraqi Federal Government.

He also talked about the agreement reached in December 2014, between Erbil and Baghdad, which, he said, has still not fully been honoured by the Federal Government.

Regarding the Kurdistan Region Presidency issue, Prime Minister Barzani said that there have been differences among Kurdistan Region’s political parties, and that negotiations continue in order to reach a common view.

Prime Minister Barzani reiterated that Kurdistan Region is open to Dutch companies and investors to conduct business and invest in the Kurdistan Region.
