Salahadin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, (Krp.org)- President Masoud Barzani received Italy's ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Marco Carnelos and an accompanying delegation. During the meeting President Barzani and ambassador Carnelos discussed the latest security and humanitarian issues, especially with regard to the IDPs from other parts of Iraq who have found a safe refuge in the Kurdistan Region. The two sides also spoke of the danger of the common enemy, the terrorists of the Islamic State who were described by the ambassador as "enemies of civilization."

President Barzani expressed his appreciation for the role of Italy and other coalition allies who have supported the Kurdistan Region in its war against I.S.

Ambassador Carnelos stated that Italy is fully committed to continue its support for the Kurdistan Region and expressed his gratitude for the role of the Kurdistan Region in not only fighting and defeating the terrorists of the Islamic State but also proving a safe haven for overwhelming number of IDPs from the rest of Iraq. The ambassador also mentioned that in the very near future Italy would begin the opening of its Consulate General in Erbil.
