Turkey’s parliament on Wednesday elected Ismet Yilmaz, who serves as the ruling AK Party’s defense minister, as its speaker.

In the fourth round of voting, Yilmaz garnered 258 votes in the 550-seat assembly, reflecting the number of seats held by the AK Party, which is the biggest party after a June 7 election, but lacks a majority to form a government on its own.
