President Barzani Receives a U.S. Congressional Delegation
The delegation began by stating that their presence in the Kurdistan Region was first and foremost to express their appreciation to the people of Kurdistan for their endurance and dedication in the past year. They also expressed their satisfaction for the Kurdistan Region's handling of the IDPs from the Nineveh plain, the al-Anbar province and other areas which had been affected by the terrorists of the Islamic State. This in addition to the refugees from Syria who have found in Kurdistan a safe haven. The congressional delegation made it clear that the relationship between the United States and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq is of great value to the United States and hoped for even more enhanced relations in the near future.
President Barzani and the delegation discussed the latest developments on the war against the Islamic State, the current crisis in Kobane, Syrian Kurdistan and the relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
