TAL AFAR, Mosul Province – Kurdish Peshmerga forces have repelled a series of ISIS attacks on their military bases in Tal Afar, some 63km west of Mosul city, a Kurdish commander told Rudaw.

“It was only a one-hour clash between our forces and the Daesh [ISIS] gunmen,” Hashem Sitay told Rudaw on Saturday, adding that the ISIS attack came in the early morning.

“They have been driven out by our forces and now they are in retreat,” Sitay added.

No Peshmerga casualties have been reported and the number of ISIS fighters killed remains unknown.

Kurdish forces have been protecting the borders of the Kurdistan region’s since last year when ISIS took control of some parts of Iraq and Syria.
