Iran accuses US of ‘double standards’ over terrorism report
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Saturday accused Washington of “double standards,” saying such policies contributed to terrorism.
Speaking to reporters, she said Iran itself “was the biggest victim of terrorism.”
In its annual terrorism report on Friday, the US said that Iran’s support for terrorist groups in the Middle East remained “undiminished.” It accused Tehran of continuing to support armed groups in Palestine and Lebanon and militia groups in Iraq and Yemen.
The report blamed Iran for “prolonging the civil war in Syria and worsening the human rights and refugee crisis there.”
In its criticism of the report, the Iranian government said that the US claim of fighting terrorism “has no credibility,” especially since Washington supports Israel against the people of Palestine.
The annual report also added that Iran is supporting terrorism abroad by using its Qods Force “to implement foreign policy goals, provide cover for intelligence operations and create instability in the Middle East.”
