KRG condemns 'cowardly' attack on pro-Kurdish party
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Regional Government has condemned the deadly attack on a rally of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) on Friday in the Turkey's Kurdish city of Amed.

“We are calling on all parties to follow legal procedures to find the perpetrators and the mastermind of the blasts. Authorities and citizens should not react in a violent manner,” said the statement released on Saturday.

The statement added: “We are strongly condemning such cowardly behavior that targeted the pro-HDP rally in Amed, killing two people and wounding more than 100. Besides our condolences to the families of the victims, we wish a quick recovery to those wounded.”

In a separate announcement earlier Saturday, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said authorities would investigate the cause of the explosions.

The attack came at a tense time just two days before Sunday’s parliamentary elections in which Kurdish votes will be critical.
