President Barzani Meets UN Envoy to Iraq Jan Kubis
The President and the UN representative discussed the situation of IDPs in Kurdistan and political and security developments in the country.
Mr. Kubis expressed UN appreciation for the KRG to take in large numbers of IDPs from areas affected by the fighting against ISIS terrorists; he said the UN would continue to closely cooperate with the KRG authorities to attend to the needs of the hundreds of thousands of IDPs from other parts of Iraq.
After congratulating Mr Kubis for his new assignment, the President commended the support of the UN agencies in helping the KRG to deal with so many IDPs and assured the UN envoy that the KRG would also do whatever it can to support the activities of the UN in Kurdistan.
On relations between Erbil and Baghdad, President Barzani said that there is now better understanding between the two sides, and that he is pleased that things are going in the right direction.
The two also discussed the progress of the fighting in Anbar and Salahaddin provinces, and the preparations for the liberation of Mosul from ISIS.
