President Masoud Barzani Meets Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn
The meeting focused on the progress of the fight against the ISIS terrorists, the humanitarian situation of IDPs in Kurdistan, and the political developments in the country.
Foreign Minister Asselborn praised the KRG for providing shelter and protection for hundreds of thousands of IDPs from other parts of Iraq and pledged his country’s support for the IDPs. He said that there is a general willingness among the European countries to help the KRG with both humanitarian and military aid.
The Foreign Minister of Luxembourg also praised the role of the Kurdistan peshmerga forces in taking the fight to the ISIS terrorists. He added that ISIS terrorism poses a threat to the whole world and defeating it needs collaboration by all sides.
After welcoming Foreign Minister Asselborn , President Barzani talked about the challenges facing the country and the region in general. He said Kurdistan will not be part of the sectarian struggle in the region. On relations between Erbil and Baghdad, the President said the KRG is committed to the recently singed deal between the two sides, and it awaits the implementation of this deal.
