Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (gov.krd) - In a statement, the Kurdistan Regional Government Council of Ministers strongly condemned the terrorist attack committed by the Islamic State terrorist organisation, ISIS, in the Syrian Kurdish city of Hasakah, killing and injuring scores of civilians, while preparing the ceremony to mark the Kurdish New Year, Nawroz.

Following is the text of the statement:

We strongly condemn the terrorist attack that took place yesterday in the city of Hasakah, when Kurdistani civilians were preparing the ceremony to celebrate Nawroz holiday. A number of innocent people were martyred and injured.

While we express our sympathy and present our condolences to the families of the martyrs and wish a prompt recovery to those injured, we reaffirm that terror and terrorists barbarian crimes will not deter the resolve of the people of Kurdistan in their struggle for peace, freedom and achieving their legitimate rights. On the contrary, such acts strengthen the determination of our people to pursue their legitimate struggle
