Eight killed in Syrian regime air raid on Hasaka: source
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Syrian warplanes bombed a Kurdish-controlled neighborhood in the city of Hasakah in the northeast on Sunday, killing eight civilians, a local source told Rudaw.

The bombing on the city’s Salihiya neighborhood, which is controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), had residents fleeing their homes, the source said.

The reported air raid followed fighting between the YPG and the Syrian army on Saturday, when the army attacked a number of Kurdish areas in Hasaka province, the YPG said.

A statement by the YPG said its fighters had repulsed an attack by the Syrian army on several neighborhoods controlled by the Kurdish forces.

According to Firat News, the YPG took control of a Syrian army base where 30 soldiers surrendered to the Kurdish forces.

The YPG is the Kurdish armed force that has controlled Syria’s Kurdish areas (Rojava) since the summer of 2012, when the Syrian army withdrew from the area.
