Baghdad, Iraq, (KRG.org) - Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani and his accompanying delegation met Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari yesterday at the last meeting on the first day of the KRG delegation’s visit to Baghdad.

They discussed the current situation in Iraq, and ways to combat terrorism. To succeed in the war against terrorism they highlighted the importance of cooperation and coordination among all Iraqi factions. They agreed to the need for all Iraqi political forces to unite in the face of this threat.

They also discussed the situation of displaced people residing in the Kurdistan Region and the urgent need for Iraq and the international community to provide them with additional assistance.

In view of the formation of a new Iraqi government they also discussed differences between Baghdad and Erbil and expressed their hope the delegation’s visit to Baghdad would be an opportunity to resolve all outstanding issues.

As successfully achieved in other countries, the Iraqi Foreign Minister emphasized the need to reach agreement on implementing a federal form of governance. The voluntary union should be based on harmony, respect, reconciliation, and understanding, and not on the basis of injustice and tyranny.

Regarding displaced people in the Kurdistan Region, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said that during his visits to other countries he continuously asks for humanitarian assistance to be provided directly to the Kurdistan Region.

To expedite delivery of much needed humanitarian and military assistance the KRG Prime Minister said the Kurdistan Regional Government is ready to facilitate imports at the Kurdistan Region’s airports by adopting the same procedures being applied at Baghdad International Airport.

Towards ensuring the interests of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq Prime Minister Barzani expressed his hope that a comprehensive agreement will be reached, noting that the Kurdistan Region is ready to resolve all outstanding issues through dialogue and mutual understanding.
